Just In: Tinubu Orders Immediate Employment for 200 Corps Members and Announces 250 Thousand Naira Cash Awards
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate employment of 200 outstanding members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) into federal civil service roles. The directive was issued during the 2025 NYSC President’s Honours Award ceremony held in Abuja, where Tinubu also approved a cash reward of 250 thousand naira for each of the selected corps members.
The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event, praised the awardees for their exceptional service, discipline, and commitment to national development during their one-year mandatory service. He stated that the employment and financial reward are part of the government’s broader efforts to recognize and encourage excellence among Nigerian youths.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of the NYSC scheme in fostering unity and national integration. He noted that those who go above and beyond in their service year deserve not only recognition but tangible support to further their careers and personal development.
The 200 corps members selected for employment were drawn from the 2019 to 2022 service years, based on their performance in areas such as community development, innovation, and contributions to public service. Many of the awardees implemented impactful projects in rural health, education, and infrastructure during their service year.
The President urged all Nigerian youths to emulate the dedication shown by the honorees, adding that the nation’s future depends on a generation that is committed to service and excellence. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating more opportunities for young Nigerians, especially those who demonstrate responsibility and innovation.
The announcement of both employment and monetary reward was met with joy and appreciation from the beneficiaries and their families. Several corps members expressed gratitude, saying the recognition had restored their hope in the nation and encouraged them to do more.
This move is also seen as a motivation for current and future corps members, as it sends a strong message that hard work and patriotic service will not go unnoticed. Government officials at the event assured the public that the recruitment process would be immediate and transparent.
As part of the ceremony, the government reaffirmed its ongoing plans to reform and strengthen the NYSC scheme, ensuring it remains a key platform for national development and youth empowerment. Tinubu’s gesture has been widely praised as a positive step toward motivating young people and recognizing merit in public service.
