Controversial activist and social commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has once again sparked national conversation after calling out the Enugu State Government for allegedly ignoring the rising number of avoidable deaths caused by reckless truck drivers across the state.
In a passionate video posted to his social media platform, VDM accused the government of playing deaf while innocent citizens are being killed on the roads due to poorly regulated truck movements. He described the recurring accidents as “state-enabled murder” and blamed the government’s inaction for the tragic losses.
“This is not accident, this is carelessness and blood on the hands of those in power. People are dying like chickens in Enugu because of trucks that shouldn’t even be on certain roads,” VDM fumed. He further criticized the absence of strict transport regulations, overloaded trucks, and the lack of functional road safety enforcement.
Citing recent tragic incidents, including a viral video of crushed market traders and school children in Abakpa area, VDM said that Enugu residents now live in fear every time they see a trailer approaching. “We are not safe in our own streets, and the government acts like it’s normal,” he said.
The activist also pointed out the failure of the state to implement basic safety infrastructure like truck-only lanes, speed bumps, traffic lights, and functional signage. “Where is the government when Enugu people are being sent to early graves?” he asked.
VDM demanded that Governor Peter Mbah issue an immediate directive to restrict truck movement within residential and market areas. “If you can’t regulate them, ban them till you can,” he insisted, adding that silence from leadership is equal to endorsement of the carnage.
Reactions to his outburst have been mixed. While many citizens and youth activists hailed his boldness, others accused him of politicizing a sensitive issue. Regardless, the spotlight is now on Enugu and whether the government will finally respond.
Meanwhile, victims’ families continue to mourn. A woman who lost her two children to a runaway truck last month told reporters: “All I want is justice, and I don’t want any other mother to go through this pain.”
VDM pledged N1 million in support to victims of these recent incidents and urged other public figures to join him in demanding reforms. “Silence is not an option. If we don’t shout, they won’t listen,” he concluded.
As outrage grows, the Enugu State Government is yet to issue a formal response. But with pressure mounting, a long-overdue reckoning may finally be around the corner.
