Nigerian social media activist and outspoken critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has once again stirred national conversation with a bold declaration — introducing the Ratel Movement* as the "Fourth Arm of Government." This declaration came during a recent live session where he addressed the public on the growing need for citizen-driven accountability and reform in Nigeria.
According to VDM, the traditional three arms of government — Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary — have failed to uphold the interests of the common man. He described the *Ratel Movement* as a watchdog body made up of young, vocal, and socially active Nigerians who are ready to demand truth, justice, and transparency at all levels.
"The Ratel Movement is not just a hashtag, it's a mindset," VDM said passionately. "We are the voice of the people. Since the so-called leaders have chosen silence and oppression, we will rise and become the Fourth Arm of Government — a people’s force!"
He emphasized that the Ratel Movement would operate through social media activism, civic education, protest awareness, and real-time monitoring of governance. "We no dey do party, we no dey collect brown envelope. Na truth be our currency," he added.
VDM called on Nigerian youths to stop waiting for celebrities or politicians to speak for them. He urged every citizen to become a Ratel — someone who isn't afraid to speak up, investigate, and expose corruption wherever it exists.
The announcement has since sparked debates across platforms like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok. Supporters praised the initiative as revolutionary, while critics questioned the structure and direction of the movement.
Nonetheless, VDM clarified that the Ratel Movement would remain independent, non-political, and focused on activism rooted in integrity. "We’re not here to replace democracy. We’re here to make it work," he stated.
He also hinted at upcoming campaigns, including voter education drives, whistleblower protection advocacy, and weekly digital reports on government actions or inactions. "We’ll track every lie, every budget, every failed promise — and expose it."
In his words, “When the system ignores us, we become the system. That’s what it means to be Ratel.” VDM closed his speech by inviting Nigerians worldwide to join and support the cause.
The Ratel Movement is already gaining traction, with many referring to it as the “moral conscience of the nation.” Whether it sustains momentum remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — VDM has reignited a spirit of fearless activism in Nigeria.
